How to Use Body Fat Skinfold Calipers

Skinfold calipers measure the thickness of subcutaneous adipose tissue directly under the skin. Always take measurements on the right side of the body while standing relaxed.

  1. Firmly pinch the skinfold between your thumb and index finger 1 cm above the measurement site.
  2. Place the caliper jaws perpendicular to the fold.
  3. Release the caliper spring tension and read the gauge within 2 seconds.
  4. Take 3 measurements per site and use the average value.
